Ceilings fans save time and money
Installing a ceiling fan is a cost-effective and practical way of ensuring you keep cool and save money.
By moving air around a room it increases evaporation, delivering a significant cooling effect. It also circulates cold air in a more efficient manner than an AC unit, reducing both the time it takes to lower temperatures and energy use.
The airflow generated by ceiling fans also deters insects, making it a multipurpose insect repellent. All this is done using the same amount of energy as you’d need for one incandescent globe.
Available statistics suggest that a Ceiling Fan can make the air feel 2-8°C colder than the actual temperature. Combining this with the beneficial air circulation effect means using a Ceiling Fan in conjunction with an AC unit could reduce your cooling energy use by 40%. Given that over 35% of electricity spending is just for heating and cooling, the benefits of a Ceiling Fan soon add up.
Sharpe Expert Electrician Pawell has extensive experience inspecting & installing electrical systems in Adelaide. His most frequently asked Ceiling Fan question:
Q: What are the requirements for installing Ceiling Fan?
A: Whilst you need a licensed electrician to install a ceiling fan, in most cases this can be done without too many modifications to your room, especially if you already have n existing a fitting where you want your ceiling fan installed.
Australian building codes require minimum height between the unit and the ground (2.1m), and fans work optimally with at least 30cm gap between the fan and the ceiling.
Don’t worry if you have a relatively low or high ceiling, as specially adapted fans or extension rods can also be fitted.

Technical Secret?
Pawel thinks you should know that whilst Ceiling Fans are very useful in winter as well as summer because they allow more efficient heating in a room.
Hot air rises and so a lot of heat is lost as it travels upwards through your home and cools (especially if it’s not insulated). Ceiling fans can circulate the air downwards, ensuring that your room stays warm and you waste less energy.
Using a ceiling fan in conjunction with a heater could cut heating costs by around 10%.
