Common problems with gas cookers (oven/stoves) when the christmas pressure is on:
Common issues associated with gas cookers include a lack of gas (gas valve or thermocouple failure), inadequate or inaccurate temperatures (thermostat or temperature sensor defects) & blockages in the gas burners.
Also be aware (especially for newer units) that incorrectly sized gas lines may mean your oven doesn’t receive the right amount gas to ensure optimum cooking.
Gas Stoves frequently have faults relating to ignition, gas supply to the burners, and gas leaks.
Household Gas Leak Leads to Significant Damage
An explosion caused by a gas appliance resulted in significant damage to an Adelaide home.
A resident of Brahma Lodge miraculously walked away from an explosion which blew out windows, knocked down a back wall and tore up floorboards.
The man had quite innocently tried to ignite his oven, which unfortunately had a major gas leak.
Natural gas leaks can easily go undetected inside your home. You should have all gas appliances regularly serviced by an accredited gas technician.
Gas Leak Nearly Causes Kitchen Catastrophe
A gas leak from a faulty gas cooker injured a child but could’ve been much more serious.
A large pocket of gas had built up in the oven and underneath the stove, and ignited when the proactive child was helping to cook lunch.
The explosion blew the appliances away from their fittings, knocked the child to the floor and showered her with a combination of food, glass and metal. She had to be hospitalised, but was released the next day.
If your Gas Supplier suspects there is a leak on your property (when reading your meter), they can shut-off your gas supply immediately, with little or no warning.
We’ve attended homes where the occupants have come home to find no hot water, heating or the ability to cook. It turns out they had a potentially deadly gas leak and their supply was turned off.
They then faced an anxious time waiting for further tests and emergency repairs.
